Parent Concerns
WHAT IS IT GOING TO COST ME FOR MY CHILD TO MARCH WITH THE BAND?
The band boosters raise money to offset the typical fees such as food and fees for competitions. Band Boosters ask for each band student to donate at least one case of 16.9 oz bottled water. Band Boosters distruted between 4,500 and 6,400 bottles of water to all band students after half-time performances and after competition performances. The fees assessed to the students in Crowley Band are on the average if not below that of other schools in the area. Fees vary every year.
Marching Shoes -Each marching band student must wear the same style black marching shoes. All new band students will need to purchase a Crowley MEB garment bag. Mr. Salazar will send home information regarding the price for the shoes and garment bag.
Optional costs – Parents will also find that there are optional costs involved with having a child in band. These costs include: admissions and travel to competitions and games (for the parents), patches and pins at competitions for the student’s letter jacket, yard sign, "Show Shirt" with Band Mom or Band Dad on the back and other spirit items to show your support for your child and the band.
HOW MUCH DO THE UNIFORMS COST?
The band uniforms are provided for the students to use but each student is responsible to buy certain pieces of the uniforms. Generally these items are only purchased once unless the student loses them, out grows them, or damages them beyond use. The items the individual marching students must purchase include: black marching shoes and black socks (at least calf length). First year band students will need to purchase a purple Crowley MEB garment bag. The Band Director will send home information stating the cost for the garment bag and marching shoes. Shoes are ordered through the Band Directors on uniform fitting day. The students are also responsible for purchasing the Band T-shirts for each band season. It is beneficial to purchase two band T-shirts, especially when there is a football game Friday night and a competition the next day.
The Wind Ensemble and Honors Band Directors will inform each band on dress requirements for concert competitions. Boys are required to wear black socks and black shoes with the issued tuxes, and the girls are to wear black hose and shoes with their concert dresses. The Ninth Grade Band will wear band uniforms for concert competition.
WHAT TYPE OF FUND RAISING DO I HAVE TO DO?
In order to raise money for the band, we encourage each parent and band member to help with all fundraising activities. It is not required, but very much appreciated.
Some fundraisers will allow your child to raise money which will go into their account to be used for their band trips. Fundraisers are determined at the beginning of each school year. Fliers and forms will be sent home with each of the band members. There is a volunteer form on the website in which you can fill out what areas you would like to volunteer.
